Seward Avenue Access Topeka, KS
River Mile: 77 GPS: N39.06046 W95.59430 River Right
Directions: From I-70 take exit #366 east of Topeka, go north on K-4. Go approximately 2 miles to the Seward Ave exit. Take Seward Ave east one mile until you cross a railroad track and come to a right curve in the road. Slow down and look for a gravel road and parking lot on the north side. The concrete access ramp is at the far north end of the parking area. If you prefer to come from U.S. 24 you can reach the same Seward Avenue exit by driving approximately 2 miles south on K-4.
Access Info: Large gravel parking lot is not lighted and this location is not a good place to leave cars overnight. Trash is often dumped at or near the ramp. The ramp could be partially silted in by the rising & lowering water. If you are planning a group boat trip, we suggest you check the condition of the ramp. Maintenance is handled by the Topeka Department of Recreation. Call 785-368-3838 for a clean-up request. You also might want to take a blunt nosed shovel with you to clear mud from the end of the ramp.
Float Info: Next access is Rising Sun Access 12.7 miles downstream at river mile 64.3. A low head dam at the Tecumseh Power Plant is 1 mile downstream from
the Seward Access Ramp east of Topeka. At high water levels a canoe or
kayak will float over the dam but in normal to low water levels there is
passage in the middle of the river near a rocky sand bar. You should
always approach this area slowly to access the passage. Passage is not
advisable for motorized boats. There are no public access to roads in
this location. The first access upstream is the Topeka Coffer Dam at river mile 87.6.
