Future developed access ramps are being planned near the city of Belvue under both the Maple Hill and Willard Bridge between Wamego and Topeka, between the Cedar Creek and Edwardsville ramps in Shawnee. Friends of the Kaw is very close to reaching a major goal - facilitating access at least every 10 miles on the entire 173 miles of the Kaw. Before 2003 there were only 3 accesses to the main stem river with several more on tributaries. This project was spearheaded by Friends of the Kaw Board member, Mike Calwell, with the assistance of Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. Friends of the Kaw appreciates all the donations of supplies, expertise and labor by individuals, businesses and city and county governments to make this project a reality.
