Community Mural Design Workshop

Attention: High School & University Instructors & Students, Local Artists, Historians, Naturalists and Neighbors - You are invited to participate at this workshop at the Breaking the Silence Conference on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 12 noon to 4pm held at the Reardon Center, 520 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS.  Mural subject: Kansas River historical, cultural and environmental themes.  Mural Location: Nefertiti's Banquet Hall at 13th and Quindaro Blvd. (to be painted the week of April 1.)  Five to ten young people will be selected to assist the Black Sheep Art Collective paint the mural (must attend design workshop to qualify.)  The community mural is a project of an EPA Environmental Justice grant awarded to Friends of the Kaw partnering with Building a Sustainable Earth Community, Wyandotte High School and the Black Sheep art Collective, an Arizona based group that hosts mural and media arts workshops around the country - their goal is to infuse environmental justice campaigns, sustainability work, and cultural sustenance efforts with art.  They mentor and support young artists to create individual and distinctive art in public spaces.
