On January 11, 2013  Friends of the Kaw received an award from the National Park Service recognizing our contributions toward the Kansas River being designated a National Water Trail on July 14, 2012.  Governor Brownback and Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism also were recognized.  Craig Thompson also presented a copy of this book "Along the Kaw" to Governor Brownback.  On February 23, 2013 Mike Calwell received the 2012 Stream Monitor of the Year from the Kansas Wildlife Federation at their annual meeting in Emporia, KS for his outstanding efforts to build 14 access ramps on the Kansas River.
